Bird’s Nests {Easter Treats}

These bird’s nests make a fun Easter treat and exciting activity for the kids to participate in.

Need a last-minute Easter dessert?  These bird’s nests are colorful, cute and a great creative choice for Easter dinner, brunch or any time really.

I am very familiar with chow mein noodles since I have made these Chinese New Year Cookies for years at Christmas time.

So it’s no surprise that I would make a variation of them for Easter.  I just can’t get enough of them!

I browsed several ideas on Pinterest first and found a ton of bird’s nests ideas (including ingredients such as coconut, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, rice cereal, Peeps, etc). However, I decided on a simple recipe similar to this one from Bake at 350.

Don’t get me wrong, I may also be making a last minute dessert that includes chocolate and peanut butter because of my obsession of anything chocolate and peanut butter, but I’m trying to branch out.

And no surprise, my kids didn’t mind that I made these bird nests either…or helping for that matter.

Of course my 15-month-old had to help too!

Tips for Making These Marshmallow Bird’s Nests

I tried spraying my hands with non-stick cooking spray to better shape the chow mein noodles to resemble bird’s nests but gave up.

 I ended up just using two spoons to form them which worked just fine.

They aren’t perfect looking, but I’m not looking for perfection when baking, especially with three young children ‘helping’ me.

Add more green food coloring than you think you’ll need. I didn’t add enough and it didn’t cover the noodles as much as I would have liked. At least the kids loved it!

You can add a variety of eggs to the nests including M&Ms or jelly beans.  I opted for a mix of the M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Speckled Eggs and M&M’S® Brand Almond Chocolate Eggs.
