This Easy Oven Baked Honey Salmon has just the right flavor combination and takes less than 30 minutes to make!
Every year I try to come up with simple ways to improve my family’s health (including my own). I’m not nearly as strict as I was years ago since it’s not practical when you have kids to feed constantly. And it’s not healthy to be super strict.
I mean every once in a while it’s okay to feed your kids boxed macaroni and cheese. Maybe even more than that. Every family’s different, so no judgment here. I just try to focus on balance, variety and moderation of everything.
Do I offer desserts every night? Absolutely not.
Do we have cake three days in a row after a birthday? Why not.
I try quite hard to focus on a balance of nutritious foods along with not-so-nutritious foods so my kids will not be craving candy, cakes, etc. all the time.
And for the most part, this works quite well. When we have Halloween or Easter candy in the house, I will let my kids generally eat what they want the day of.
Are they allowed to gorge themselves on candy to the point of making themselves sick? Of course not.
But when they ask “Can I have another piece?” after they’ve had a few, I’ll ask them how they feel. Then I’ll remind them they could get a stomach ache from too much (which I’m pretty sure has happened to each of them at least once).
Anyway, now on to the recipe I’ve brought to you today!
This Easy Oven Baked Dijon Mustard Honey Salmon is a must-try for anyone looking to increase their seafood intake. It’s a perfect balance of sweetness and super easy to cook. Ingredients Needed to Make This Easy Oven Baked Salmon
- 1 pound Salmon – frozen or fresh
- Soy sauce
- Olive oil
- Honey
- Dijon mustard
- Garlic
- Fresh parsley, if desired
How to Prep For This Salmon Recipe
I start with 4 ounce frozen salmon filets that I buy at our local Sam’s Club. I thaw them in cold water in my refrigerator starting in the morning. They typically will thaw in about 5-6 hours.
About an hour before dinner, I combine the soy sauce, olive oil, honey, Dijon mustard and garlic in a small bowl.
As usual, I add aluminum foil to an 11 x 17-inch rimmed pan and spray it with non-stick spray. See below for more time saver tips.
Time Saver Tips for Making This Easy Oven Baked Salmon Recipe
- Always add aluminum foil to your rimmed baking pan for easy clean-up.
- And spray it with non-stick cooking spray for ease of removing the salmon from the pan.
- I’ve made the mistake too many times of spraying a heavily used non-stick baking pan with non-stick spray and guess what…it doesn’t clean well as you may know. It gets baked on and is extremely hard to get clean after that.
- Check your pantry the night before you plan to make this recipe and pull out the shelf-stable ingredients.
- I like to do this to make sure I have all the ingredients I need, and so when I wake up the next morning I don’t forget what I was planning on making.
- Yes, it happens more often than I’d like to admit. It may be time to go back to the whiteboard I used to write on to keep track of meal planning.
Dietitian’s Dish
When it comes to choosing salmon, you’ll see both farm-raised and wild-caught salmon. I’m generally not concerned when it comes to differences to how animals are fed, where they are raised, etc. because most of the time it doesn’t matter.
However, there are differences between farm-raised and wild salmon. And for the recommended amount of weekly intake according to the American Heart Association, you should eat 6 to 8 ounces of fish each week.
Wild Salmon
- Less saturated fat and 131 fewer calories than farm-raised
- A good source of omega-3s
- Fewer pollutants
- No antibiotics
Farm-Raised Salmon
- Has 20% more saturated fat than wild-caught
- More budget-friendly
- Slightly more omega-3s than wild salmon
- Unknown antibiotic use
If you’d like more information regarding the differences, check out the Cleveland Clinic.
