I’m still on my smoothie-making kick and loving it! And I have the perfect way to use up ripe bananas besides adding them to pancakes, banana bread, or banana mini muffins which I love to do. I buy at least two bundles of bananas a week and sometimes my kids devour them in a few days and other times we have brown bananas before they get eaten up. And since I don’t always have time to make banana bread I will peel them and place them in freezer bags to be used in smoothies anytime. There’s also no need for ice in the smoothie when you add frozen bananas.
This is the first time I used kale in my smoothie and no berries which was pretty fun since we got a nice green tint to our smoothies – any variation adds a little bit of excitement and curiosity for my kids and gets them more interested in trying it. I also love that you can’t taste the veggies in the smoothie whether it’s kale or spinach (my husband is surprised every time I tell him there is spinach or kale in the smoothie).
Dietitian’s Dish
You know how I love dairy and adding it to pretty much everything (seriously it’s rare that one of my recipes does NOT include dairy). I’m also a big advocate of protein which the Dannon Oikos (Vanilla) Triple Zero Greek Nonfat Yogurt I included has plenty of protein and is possibly the perfect protein snack™ (tasty and includes 15 grams of protein per 5.3 oz)! I also added a fairly new-to-me ingredient – Jif peanut powder which contains no added sugar and contains 85% less fat than traditional peanut butter and since it’s powder, it’s super easy to add to smoothies or baked goods.
