Healthier Puppy Chow

This Healthier Puppy Chow is made with delicious peanut butter, sugar and chocolate chips but also with a few added nutritious ingredients.

Healthier Puppy Chow

It’s been some time since I’ve posted a sweets type of recipe here on Chocolate Slopes. That’s mainly due to the fact that I haven’t been experimenting with too many different desserts.

And around the holidays, there are so many tried and true recipes that I love making, it doesn’t leave much room for new recipes.

However, this recipe came about because I had a few extra boxes of store-brand oatmeal squares. My family decided they no longer enjoyed the store brand.

We are big fans of Quaker Oatmeal Squares – thankfully I can find them on sale oftentimes at Target.

I have really been working on keeping my grocery bills as low as possible. So this typically results in purchasing store-bought items the majority of the time.

But, I will buy name brand items when they are on clearance or if there is a specific item that we prefer that’s name brand.

Or as an example, I want whole grain hamburger buns or hot dog buns and I have a hard time finding store-brand whole grain products. So I end up purchasing brands like Aunt Millie’s – which I love.

Thankfully, this recipe worked out great. I’ve been wanting to make some sort of “puppy chow” mix so I thought why not try it with our Oatmeal Squares box.

It also adds a bit more fiber from the cereal and some healthy fats from the peanut butter and nuts.

If you’re looking for another variation of puppy chow, check out this S’Mores Puppy Chow, it contains one of my kids favorite ingredients…Nutella!

Storage

These keep pretty well for several days. I like to put them in a plastic container and keep them on my counter or cabinet – so they aren’t in sight all day long.
