If you’re ready to take the next step in blogging and want to learn how to increase blog traffic for good, read on to learn my tips on how to grow your business.
Most people don’t know this, but when I started blogging, I didn’t start it as a hobby, I wanted to jump in and start making money as quickly as possible. You may think this is a duh, doesn’t everyone?
But no, several bloggers I knew who started blogs 5-10 years ago started them for various reasons other than making money. Some wanted a place to journal and others used it as a way to save their creative recipe creations. And some just used their blog as a way to connect with family who lived far away.
I, on the other hand, was a stay at home mother of these three and wanted to make some money while doing something intellectually stimulating. If you’ve ever stayed home with children full-time, especially infants, you know what I mean!
They have grown up quite a bit since then and now more than ever I am working on feeding my family nutritious, simple meals, especially those that are budget-friendly since kids eat a lot!
When it came to blogging, since I am a dietitian I thought what better way to combine my current situation at the time with my desire to feed my family nutritious, yet simple meals. This is how Chocolate Slopes began. And it didn’t just happen overnight. I had a good friend, Rachel, from Rachel Cooks, give me tons of good advice since she had started her blog a few years before I began. And slowly, but surely, with a ton of hard work, my blog traffic began increasing using the following tips.
Connect With Other Bloggers
This was fairly easy for me since I’m fairly extroverted, but it still takes time to network with others. Since I was a stay at home mom when I started, we would have more play-date style networking than anything, but it was still immensely helpful! There are also tons of ways to connect with your fellow bloggers online. Start by searching Facebook for your particular niche.
Connect With Brands
One thing I started doing regularly was to follow brands that I love and use daily. This is fairly easy with social media and as a family of 5 we use a TON of different products. I will follow specific brands that I love, then share their posts that I think are useful and relevant to my audience and readers. Then, I reach out to the marketing or PR representative to ask if they would like to partner with me. I then “sell” myself by describing my blog and what I enjoy about their brand and how I think it was a great fit for my audience. This is basically my “sales pitch.”
Learn From Successful Entrepreneurs
When I first began, I researched a ton and read blog posts on topics like “How to Make Money Blogging,” or “How to Make Blogging a Business” or something to that effect. However, since I took a hiatus from blogging and just got back into it a few months ago, I thought I should freshen up my skills and learn some new techniques, especially increasing my blog traffic. One book that is helping me do just that is Russell Brunson’s Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers.
It was refreshing to learn that I have already incorporated SOME of his strategies to increasing blog traffic but I definitely have a lot more to learn. He uses a 30-day challenge including tons of exercises and tasks for you to complete that will teach you key strategies to increase your site traffic.
In the book, Russell explains how to use specific evergreen marketing techniques on how to be in the front of trends and see opportunities you may likely be missing. I haven’t quite finished the challenge but so far I have a ton of ideas to help grow my traffic.
Share Your Stories and Posts
Like Russell Brunson emphasizes in his book, Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers, the biggest problem you may have isn’t that you’re not creating amazing material, it’s that future customers don’t know you exist!
Russell also explains that in regards to social media, you can be either a consumer or a producer. So you need to promote yourself by sharing, sharing and sharing. There is an art to sharing content which would be several posts long if I explained that all, however, know that you need to share on the popular social media platforms regularly for people to find you and follow you.
