I personally have never had a problem eating breakfast in the morning. I would call it habit. I can remember as early as elementary school my mom being up way before us kids, helping us get ready for school and having breakfast ready. We weren’t big fans of cereal so we typically had waffles, pancakes or some sort of muffin with fruit. 

I know that some kids and adults struggle with eating breakfast and it is such an important meal in the day that I thought I would focus on how to eat breakfast while keeping it simple. As you may start seeing a trend, one focus of mine for 2016 is to keep things simple and simple breakfast is one of those ways.

Tips to Help Start Eating Breakfast

  • Not hungry for breakfast? Pay attention to how much you (and your children) are eating for dinner the night before or any late-night snacks. Eating too much the night before can definitely decrease your appetite in the morning. Try cutting back on either your dinner or snack to see if you’re more hungry in the morning.
  • Plan ahead: set out plates, bowls, silverware and fruit the night before, this way you’ll save time and be more likely to sit down since the prep is already done.
  • Make breakfast family time: several nights my husband isn’t home for dinner time but he is around for breakfast. Eating breakfast as a family gives us the opportunity for conversation that we wouldn’t have any other time of the day.
  • Provide simple breakfast options like the ones listed below that we love as a family.

Simple Breakfast Ideas

The following ideas I serve regularly in my house and always pair the main grain option with fruit (usually a clementine, apple or banana), low-fat yogurt or cheese stick and a glass of milk.

  • I make a huge batch of whole wheat pancakes and freeze half and put the other half in the fridge. This way all it takes is about one minute in the microwave to have a hot breakfast.

  • Over the weekend I will make this Easy Breakfast Casserole and just reheat it in the morning for a simple breakfast.

I'm one of those adults that has a hard time eating in the morning. I usually just drink coffee and wait until lunch. Seeing how easy it can be may help me a bit. Especially the belVita breakfast biscuits. Can't get any easier than that! #client
