Do you get stuck with the same ideas when it comes to serving lunches? Personally I seem to stick with the same few ideas…grilled cheese, pb and j, cheese/hummus/veggie/fruit plate. Although the kids love these options, I do try to change things up now and then so no one gets bored. Thankfully we have Pinterest for this. My Pinterest page is slowly growing with more and more ideas of meal options for both adults and kids!
I found the idea of these Peanut Butter Banana Roll Up sandwiches quite awhile ago, and the kids LOVED them! I got the idea originally from Totally Love It, but my version is much simpler with only 3 ingredients. And of course you could always substitute peanut butter for another butter (almond, sunflower, etc) if your child has peanut allergies.
These literally take about 5 minutes to make…my kind of lunch!
Needless to say, my kids LOVED these! Usually, anything bite-sized is a hit and this passed the preschool and toddler tests! And as an added bonus, they are easy enough to get the kids involved in making them too. Of course, they are easy to pack in lunch boxes too for school-age children.
Need tips for adding more variety to your kids’ lunches?
- Keep a variety of fresh fruit on hand to serve something different everyday
- Use whole wheat hot dog buns, hamburger buns, tortillas or mini bagels in place of sliced bread
- Add deli turkey, cheese cubes and grape tomatoes to skewers
- Try breakfast for lunch: pancakes, waffles or yogurt with whole grain cereal
- Serve “snack” foods as part of lunch like cheese and crackers, mini muffins or granola bars
