This Slow Cooker Butternut Squash Soup is amazing comfort food. It’s not only delicious but also has a secret ingredient that adds a bit of sweetness without tons of calories!
Disclosure: I was asked to participate in the “#UseNectar” campaign as a member of the Healthy Aperture Blogger Network. I was compensated for my time.
Did you know November is National Diabetes Month? Diabetes affects more than 29 million Americans. It is a serious condition with a number of complications that come from diabetes.
I personally have worked with clients who have diabetes. I also have a personal connection with this disease since it runs in my family.
It’s likely you also know someone who has diabetes or is at risk for diabetes.
Fortunately, diabetes can be managed through proper diet, physical activity and working with your health care team. This team is important to help you manage all aspects of the condition.
I want to be clear that one food or one activity you do will not greatly change your health status. But rather, simple changes that lead to long-term lifestyle changes can make a great impact on your health.
This recipe is a good example of how to eat a nutritious, diabetic-friendly meal without compromising flavor. The “secret” ingredient I used was Truvia® Nectar. It’s an excellent alternative when you want to add honey to recipes.
The new 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend limiting added sugars to less than 10 percent of total daily calories.
And this zero-calorie sugar substitute like stevia – the non-calorie sweetener found in Truvia® Nectar, can help you manage your weight and reduce the risk of certain diseases.
Dietitian’s Dish
Choosing a well-balanced, nutritious diet including foods like Truvia® Nectar can help you manage your sugar intake. Yet it still allows you can enjoy the sweetness in foods.
Truvia® Nectar contains 50% fewer calories than sugar and contains only 2 grams of carbohydrates per 1/2 teaspoon serving.
Truvia® Nectar also has twice as much sweetness as honey so you can use half as much and still experience the full flavor.
