These Spiral Christmas Sugar Cookies are as fun and festive as they are delicious!
In honor of my birthday today I thought I’d bring you all a treat. Ridiculously adorable Christmas cookies!
Yea, yea, what does that have to do with my birthday? Well, I love sweets and I love Christmas, so it fits!
I’ve seen variations of this type of spiral cookie for the past several years and finally got around to making them.
And they were worth it! I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe from The Simple, Sweet Life that I also used for my Candy Corn Sugar Cookies and it worked so well.
Ingredients Need to Make These Spiral Christmas Sugar Cookies
- butter
- white sugar
- egg
- baking powder
- vanilla extract
- All-purpose flour
- Green and red food coloring
- Christmas sprinkles
Here is a visual of a few steps involved in making these cookies. Believe me, they are easier to make than you may think! Full instructions are in the recipe below.
First, start by making the batter and dividing them into two equal parts.
One will be with red food coloring, and the other will have green food coloring.
Then, roll each section of dough into a layer of about a 1/4-inch thick and place one on top of another.
Next, cut a rectangular shape out of the dough like shown in the image and roll the dough together tightly.
Now place the Christmas sprinkles onto a flat surface like a cutting board and roll the dough cylinder over the sprinkles.
Once the dough is well-coated with sprinkles, use a sharp knife to evenly slice the dough into circular-shaped cookies.
As you can see our Elf loved them too 🙂
My kids love helping me make all sorts of sweets around the holidays. But if you’re looking for something other than festive sweets, check out these tasty Christmas pancakes. My kids will definitely want to make them as soon as I suggest it. And check out the Elf also helping to make them!
Dietitian’s Dish
This may be TMI for a few people but it’s good to know.
Just a warning: if you as an adult eat a bit too many of these cookies (or dough-eek!), your stools will be green approximately 12-24 hours later.
And if your toddler eats just two of these cookies his stools will be bright green about 12 hours later. Don’t ask why I might know this! I just wanted to save you the trouble of googling “reasons for green stools.” You’re welcome 🙂
Disclaimer: Of course this truly did happen, but if you experience green stools more often than just after eating green/red cookies, consult your physician.
